Week #3 What's happening in the world of AI? - MKTG 348

The world of artificial intelligence is constantly evolving and is all around us. Have you ever seen a Tesla? Guess what, Tesla uses artificial intelligence in all of their cars. The AI in their cars can be used to drive the car to and from destinations hands free.

The picture above is a woman using autopilot in her tesla. The unique thing about Tesla autopilot is that the AI system takes everything into account while on the road. Traffic, speed limit and even the weather. If you think thats crazy you'll never believe what I'm going to say next. Tesla is working on a project that involve their cars AI being able to predict your destination. BOOM.  That is nuts. How would that even be possible? Honestly, I have no idea. I found a link that talks about the possibility of Tesla's AI to be able to read minds. Check it out here: https://futurism.com/elon-musk-tesla-ai-prediction/

Artificial Intelligence can be found in many more places other than cars. Many hospitals have some sort of AI. Google is also creating AI robots to assist with everyday surgery. Check out this link to see more: https://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/google-johnson-and-johnson-surgical-robots/

The picture above is a possibility of what the surgical robots could look like. I have mixed feelings about a robot doing surgery on me. The surgery could go smoothly and may be faster than normal, or the AI could mess up big time and end up killing me. Who knows. I am all for AI to grow and develop. Sooner or later it is going to effect just about every job field.

Week #3 Introduction to Search Engine Optimization - MKTG 348

Chapter two of Introduction to Search Engine Optimization talks about content related to SEO. Did you know there are tools available for us to use to help us with SEO? Chapter two also discusses those tools.  One tool that is mentioned in this chapter is Blogger! Which happens to be the site I have been using to create my blog for the last semester and part of this semester. Blogger is a great way to start developing content, especially if it's your first time trying to create it.

The image above is a screenshot of my first ever blog post. I think I've come a long way since that first post. I have grown to love blogger and blogging in general. It's the easiest way to create content and you'll really learn a lot about many different things along the way. The more quality content you post the more likely it is t be found.

Blogger isn't the only tool you can use. Creating a free website is also an option. Google provides are a lot like blogger. They both seem fairly simple but can pack a big punch. Another option is creating videos and posting them on YoutTube. The list of tools that can be used to help with SEO goes on and on. It's important for anyone going into the marketing field, in my opinion, to get their feet wet with as many different tools as you can. The more knowledge the better. Who knows maybe your blogger will blow up and you'll become very well known and will be a the top result when people search for you. The possibilities are endless.

Introduction to Search Engine Optimization - MKTG 348

If you're like me then you probably have no idea what search engine optimization is. This semester I plan to dive deep into this topic. Everyone uses search engines. I know I use Google at least four to five times a day. A great way to dive into each engine optimization is to actually know what it is. My professor recently posted a video for my class to watch to get a basic understanding of how a search on Google works. Check it out a here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNHR6IQJGZs&t=2s

After reading chapter one of my text book Google is starting to look different. Yes, it's a search engine, but have you ever thought of it as a library. Technically thats what Google is. It's a library that is constantly making money. When searching something on Google the first few things that pop up are obviously going to be the most relevant content. Now why is that?

The more relevant your content is the more likely it is to be found. Higher quality content = higher rankings. Let's look at YouTube for example. According to the book Introduction to Search Engine Optimization by Todd Kelsey, YouTube is the second most popular search engine. Crazy right? It's true, many people turn to YouTube for entertainment but also for informative videos. I wanted to put this theory to the test. I decided to go to YouTube to try and find out more information about a celebrity. I went to the site and searched 'Liza Koshy' and this is what came up:

At the top we see and add, but below that we see her YouTube channel and her most recent videos. This person already has tons of subscribers and tons of quality content. Which proves the theory "The more relevant your content is the more likely it is to be found. Higher quality content = higher rankings."

I am only scratching the surface of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) right now. I can't wait to continue to grow and explore this topic this semester.

Week #1 Surfing The Tsunami - MKTG 348

Second semester and I'm back and better than ever. I am super excited to be taking another marketing class this semester. From my understanding this class is going to be learning about search engine optimization. Currently I do not know much about that topic but it'd only the first week. I can't wait to see what this class has to offer.

This week I am starting my journey off by reading Surfing The Tsunami By Toddy Kelsey. This book is going to give me an introduction to artificial intelligence. Last semester I only scratched the surface of artificial intelligence. I made a few blog posts about it. Feel free to check those out.

Chapter one of Surfing The Tsunami is a brief introduction to artificial intelligence, and why we should care about it. Artificial intelligence is here to stay and it is going to continue to grow and evolve. To be honest some types of AI have worries such as the physical robots. I have this weird thought in my head that they will eventually rule the world and become the dominant species. Just kidding. If you think about it, there are many types of robots already being used today, such as robots that help preform surgery. There are also AI software bots. I strongly believe that the software bots will play a big role in my generations future. All types of AI will continue to grow over the next few years. I'm excited and nervous to see what the future holds. With that being said, I agree with the main idea's of chapter one of Surfing The Tsunami. Everyone should care about AI, it is going to continue to change the world in big ways that will ultimately effect everyone. That's why it is important to have a basic understanding of the world of artificial intelligence.

Week #15 Overview

As my Social Media Marketing class is coming to an end I have realized how much I have learned over the last 15 weeks. Before going into this class I had no idea what to expect. The only thing I knew about social media marketing was how annoying the little ads that popped up on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter were. But after doing some reading and the listening to lectures from Professor Kelsey I realized there is so much more to social media marketing.

I also learned how to create my own Facebook page. It was a lot easier than I thought. Something I thought was super interesting was being able to see how many people have viewed my Facebook page, where the viewers were from and so much more. I had a couple of views from overseas and that totally amazed me. I even posted a few posts to my page using Hootsuite.

Hootsutie played a big role in this class. Learning how to use Hootsuite and becoming certified was a huge deal to me. It's going to benefit me in the long run. I have talked so much about Hootsuite in my other posts I'm sure you know what it's all about by now LOL. But I think it will look good on my resume that I am certified.

One of my favorite things we did this semester was work on our LinkedIn pages. I have had a LinkedIn page for the longest time but I honestly had no idea what I was doing. During this class I was able to fix my page and make it look professional.

If you have not already picked up a copy of What Color is Your Parachute? I recommend you do. That book will teach you everything you need to know about finding a job thats right for you. It is such an easy read and very beneficial. The main thing I took away from that book was its okay to fail at a job that you thought was going to be the best job in the world. It's a learning experience. This is a book I plan on keeping forever and rereading when I start looking for a job the semester before I graduate.

Over all Social Media Marketing was one of my favorite classes. I feel like this is one of the only classes I have taken so far that will greatly benefit my future. I hope everyone enjoyed my blog through out the semester!

Week #15 Hootsuite

I recently finished my Hootsuite certification. Honestly, it was hard but not too hard. You only needed a 65% to pass. 65%, easy peasy lemon squeezey. Hootsuite is going to greatly benefit my future. I plan on going into some type of social media work. Social media is only going to keep evolving. It's never going to go out of style. I cannot even imagine what social media will be like five years from now.  What I do know is that because social media will continue to evolve the jobs for social media will also evolve.

After working towards my Hootsuite certification all year I can say I highly recommend everyone who plans on going into a field that uses social media in any type of way to become certified. Hootsuite can be used in so many ways. Lets take a look at the benefits of using Hootsuite from a small business perspective. Say you just started your business and you need to get the word out that you started this business and show the things you have to offer. The best way to do this is thorough social media. But how time consuming it would be to have to type out posts for each social media cite. With Hootsuite it would be quick and easy. Not only will you be able to post on multiple social media networks at one time but you can also schedule when you want your content to be posted. You can even set reminders for yourself as well. If you have multiple employees they can also use Hootsuite as well.

I enjoyed learning how to use Hootsuite and becoming certified. I am also I had the chance to understand what Hootsuite was. Before I took my Social Media Marketing class I had no idea what Hotosuite was. But now it is going to greatly benefit my future.

Week #14 What Color is Your Parachute?

Have you ever thought about starting your own business? I know I have. In the most recent chapter of  What Color is Your Parachute? I read about starting a business. For some people, job hunting might not be going very well or maybe you've realized that you want to be your own boss. If any of those things apply to you then maybe starting your own business may be the right choice for you.

According to the book there are four things you should do before opening your own business. Those are; write, read, explore and get feedback. Write, write it all out. Write down your ideas, skills, interest, knowledge and anything that comes to mind. Read, read about whats its like to own your own business. Read things that you feel passionate about that will help you create your own business. Explore, explore your options. Explore how businesses like the one you are trying to create turned out. See what worked for the business and what didn't. Then think of ways you can use those things to make your business better. Finally, get feedback. The best people to go to for feedback is family. They know you better than anyone and will be able to give you the best advice. It's also important to explore whether staring your own business is going to require sacrifices from them, not just you. Also ask them how they would feel about if they needed to make sacrifices for your business. That feedback may open you eyes to realize if opening your own business will be possible.

Pictured above in my grandmas dance studio. My grandma owns here own business and it's not always easy. She said she opened her own business because she wanted to be her own boss. Grandma Pat is 81 years old and still owns her own business today. Before opening her own dance studio she did just about everything I mentioned in the above paragraph. And that is because she read What Color is Your Parachute? She told me that she wouldn't have had any idea as to how to start a business if it wasn't for this book. Anyone can be successful as long as you take your time and are willing to learn from your mistakes.
